The Theater Arts Major with an ACTING focus class schema is as follows.

 

 

 

 INTRO TO ACTING:             this is a brief overview of the stage including the fundamentals of acting, stage movement, monologues, play writing, stage

                                                History, and pantomime.  The final class project is a ten minute play written, memorized and performed  before an

                                                audience

 

 ACTING II:                            This advanced class delves a little more deeply into theories of acting on stage.  Students will research various plays and

                                                playwrites as they memorize several short scenes and monologues.  Students will be introduced to the idea of acting unions,

                                                finding managers, casting calls and auditioning techniques .

 

ORAL INTERPRETATION:   Acting Students learn the rudiments of oral interpretation including characterization, demographics and use of the “dramatic V.”

                                                Students will perform both published and self written stories as they critique one another’s work.

 

MOVEMENT:                         This is a dance class focusing on movement for actors.  Dance and movement are vital to stage performance.  This is not a class

                                                to become a great dancer, but rather to improve the gracefulness of actors on the stage.

 

INTRO TO BROADCASTING:  Here, students will learn the basics of using all equipment within the TV studio and video editing programs on the computers.

                                                They will learn the fundamentals of creating, filming, directing and editing video and television.

 

THEATER PRODUCTION 1  This class is the set building and stage management class. This is a class to teach students various skills for

productions besides acting on the stage.  Students build all sets from scratch for all performances throughout the year while learning how to take care of the stage and run sound and lights.

 

DIRECTING:                           Students will learn the fundamentals of directing and producing a show.  Throughout the semester they will be practicing

                                                several techniques of directing for the stage.  The semester will culminate with a showcase of performances all directed by

                                                students.

 

BROADCAST NEWS:            This class will focus on reporting, writing and presenting information before a television studio camera to be presented

                                                on a daily basis to several classes throughout the building.

 

ELECTIVES:

 

Video editing:                           Here, students delve into several different editing programs and are responsible for editing various programs recorded

                                                throughout the semester.

 

Public speaking                         Students will learn the fundamentals of creating, organizing, writing and presenting speeches in public.  They will learn

                                                the step by step process from research to presentation.

 

Costume Making                      Students will focus their attention on designing and creating costumes for various shows within the semester.

 

Acting for camera                     Students will learn the differences between acting for a live audience on the stage and acting in front of a camera.

                                                They will learn basic audition techniques for commercials and television.

 

Theater Arts Programs  (auditions only)

Dance Ensemble                       learn various styles of dancing while performing before an audience several times a year

Children’s Theater Company    skits written and performed by students for local junior highs

Humanities Theater Company   perform two or three times a year producing either full length musicals or plays

Camera Crew                           these students are trained to film and edit all shows throughout the year

Company Stagehands               students learn the art of managing an entire show and are in charge of each show throughout the year, including publicity, ticket
