Project:-
The Egg
Experiment
Materials:
1 raw, uncooked egg, 1 cup of clear vinegar, 1 cup of corn or maple
syrup, 1 cup of distilled water (tap water works ok too), if you
have food coloring, great, if not it’s ok, container with lid if you
like.
Procedure:
Pour the clear vinegar into the container, place the egg in the
vinegar. The vinegar should cover the egg. Let the egg sit for 2-3
days. With the egg still in the container, pour out the vinegar and
add the corn or maple syrup until it covers the egg. Let the egg
sit for 2-3 days. With the egg still in the container, pour out the
corn or maple syrup and add the water until it covers the egg. (If
you have food coloring add it to the water before setting the egg in
it) Let the egg sit for 2-3 days.
Hypothesis:
I predict that……. Make a prediction of what will happen to the egg,
egg shell, vinegar, corn syrup and water. Will the egg expand, or
shrink, will the egg shell change color, will the vinegar evaporate
or disappear, etc.
Observations:
Record your daily observations of the eggs appearance, egg shell,
amount of liquid, etc.
Example:
Day 1: I put the
egg in the vinegar, nothing happened.
Day 2: The egg
is starting to……
Conclusion: Were
your hypotheses’ correct? What was the end result? How does this
relate to the concept of diffusion?
